Paranormal Research - True Paranormal Research, is and always will be a scientific endeavor. Paranormal Research organizations should not exist to be social groups or clubs. They should only be formed with the intent to help and assist people, when they encounter something beyond their normal capacity to deal with in their lives and of course to gather and assimilate knowledge. This is the basis of all true science, to further the knowledge of mankind, in essence to broaden our horizons as a species.
With the acquisition of such wisdom to our science, we can only better ourselves and gain power to a certain degree, over our own destiny. We must research and investigate with all scientific means at our disposal and its criteria must be followed, to bring about a sound conclusion to its end. If we fail to do this, it will defeat us in our goals. We must adhere to the rules of genuine science and research in our investigations at all times. Now this is not to say, that we shouldn’t band together, on the contrary, communication and the exchange of data, research studies and information is a must. Without the transference of ideas and support, we would lose a very valuable asset. But we should always examine ourselves in our research as to what our true and basic motives are - fun and games - or the noble quest for knowledge in our field. This of course doesn’t mean that we cannot enjoy what we do. But only that we should never forget the serious side of our work.
We must too, in the pursuit of our work, approach our subject matter to a certain degree with a somewhat skeptical eye. We must prove first what it is not, before we can prove what it may be. When we remove the element of doubt, as much as possible, then we can begin to make our case as to what it is and what has occurred. This approach, is of course one of the basic foundations of scientific investigation.
Also it must be said here, that to investigate things of a spiritual nature, one must approach the subject with a somewhat religious or spiritual basis. You don’t go to a Chinese restaurant and order Italian food, just as you don’t try to play baseball with a hockey stick. So these things of a spiritual matter must be handled in the correct way. In certain instances of malevolent and dangerous manifestations, our clients should definitely have the option available of a religious answer or the help of clergy. Also it should be noted that to truly defeat evil, we must know how it works.
On the other hand however, during the course of an investigation, we cannot condone the use of psychics and psychic abilities. This does not mean that we do not believe in the psychic or sensitive tendencies that are inherent, to a certain extent, in all humans. But this intuition is built sometimes upon a certain amount of conjecture, supposition and personal opinion. Such impressions and feelings as we all know can many times be deceiving and misleading. Therefore they cannot be considered in an investigation as a legitimate way to offer proof of scientific evidence. If investigators allow such circumstantial evidence, as this, then the case itself can easily be regarded as inconclusive. This type of research cannot be considered as anywhere near a scientific approach. Without the investigative rules of science, the case itself may end in failure and defeat.
As researchers of the paranormal and the supernatural, our investigations should encompass all aspects of the paranormal field - not just the investigations of supposedly haunted places. But also crypto zoology, natural mysteries, unnatural light phenomenon, including UFO reports - also myths and legends of an anthropological nature that pertain to certain cultures and their locations. In short, anything considered above the normal as of course - in what we call - Para-normal. In a true investigation, these things and others should by all means be looked into by us, with as always a scientific approach to the subject at hand. Unless we begin to hold ourselves to a higher calling, we as investigators and our research will never be taken seriously by those of the scientific community and by the public at large. We must always be on guard, for to lose our credibility, would be to forfeit a really valuable tool that researchers of any kind, could not possibly do without.
There is in the end, nothing wrong and everything right in the ever ongoing quest for knowledge. But we must hold ourselves true to the best way in which to acquire that knowledge. We must remember too, that there will always be those that do not understand and are fearful, those that will laugh and scoff at what we do. These are all normal, human reactions to the deep seeded fear of the unknown that is present in all higher forms of life. We can tolerate the tag of “ghost hunter” even though it tends to stereotype us in our true calling. But this too, is all part of the job that we have set before us. So let us therefore not be afraid as we face the unknown in our quest, nor let the fear of ridicule stop us. For in the end we have made the choice - to go where few others before have gone - to bravely face what is unknown - and make it known - to see - the unseen.
